Help me give my students basic instructional supplies! Distance learning for kindergartners cannot take place solely in front of a screen. I've included many tactile materials so that they can strengthen their finger muscles.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When we learned that school would be closing, the super K teacher at my school scrambled to put together take-home packages. We had less than 24 hours to gather pencils, paper, dry erase boards and other various material that the students could use over the next several weeks. Who knew that several weeks would turn into months!
My students are at home now, many of them, in multi-family apartments and temporary housing units.
They do not have a variety of supplies. While some have technology, others struggle to get online because Wifi is unpredictable. Kindergartners need actual supplies to use and practice with. They need to be using their hands to create with a variety of tools.
My Project
Over the past several weeks, I have seen my students try their hardest to complete their work and participate to the fullest. However, this is very hard for many of them. I have one student who completes all his work on the dry erase board I sent home because he doesn't have any paper.
Learning, even at home, should be fun and engaging!
I have created a super- fun package filled will crayons, markers, pencils, a variety of paper, math manipulatives, tactile tools and more!
My school is in the process of implementing project- based learning projects. I would love to knock down several of the barriers that are coming in the way of my student's learning by providing them all with helpful and engaging materials!
