Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you recall your teacher saying to get out a piece of paper? Picture reaching into your desk but there is no paper. My ten, eleven and twelve year old fifth graders live in an urban environment and often do not have necessities needed to function in the classroom everyday.
We are a "universal" school, meaning that everyone qualifies for free/reduced lunch.
The supply list posted in August is only a "wish" list for us. Add that to the fact that these students are becoming more conscious about consuming paper products. If I say "dry erase supplies" they react with joy rather than groan!
My Project
What is a solution? Dry Erase Markers and boards give my students the opportunity to "show" what they know! The tactile feeling of working on a dry erase board encourages students to be more productive. They will even begin challenging one another to see who can get the right answer first.
Please consider supporting this proposal for a "gross" of dry erase markers.
This would allow me to quick check student work and decide if we are able to move on to another skill in math or language arts daily work.
