My Project
I teach an incredible group of middle schoolers in a Title I school in West Los Angeles, where the majority of my students come from underserved communities. Despite the challenges they face outside the classroom, they bring energy, curiosity, and resilience into our math and science lessons every day. They love hands-on activities, group projects, and engaging discussions, and I’m constantly inspired by their desire to grow and succeed.
Right now, my students are sitting in old, uncomfortable desk-chair combos that limit their ability to collaborate and focus.
Many of the chairs are wobbly, rusty, or too small for growing middle school bodies, and the desks don’t offer the flexibility we need for modern, interactive learning. Replacing them with separate tables and chairs will give students the freedom to move more easily, work in teams, and stay comfortable throughout the day, especially during long blocks of instruction.
This project is not just about new furniture. It is about creating a learning space where students feel safe, respected, and ready to engage. With new tables and chairs for half of my class, my classroom can reflect the dynamic and creative ways we approach math and science.
