My Students

My students are from small town, rural Oklahoma. Over half of the students in the community are from households that fall below the poverty level. The community is also unique in that 50% of the students are Hispanic, while the other 50% is white. There are many English-language learners among my students.

Many students in the community face the challenge of being English language learners.

This is a challenge that they overwhelmingly step up to. I really enjoy this as a Spanish teacher as I am able to have a deeper understanding of where my students are coming from.

When my students feel invested in, it really makes them feel like they are valued by their school, community, and world. This project will make students feel empowered.

My Project

Thanks to our previous projects, we were able to have more students lift weights that were appropriate for their personal size. This also means that as our students have grown stronger, the weights they lift need to become bigger. Our student-athletes have achieved a lot since previous donations. We are looking for ways to keep them busy while others are using weights.

This new equipment will enable more students to use our weight room at the same time, and it will also allow more students to do the same exercise at the same time in small groups.

This is a combined project between the weight room and the softball team as part of this project is to raise money for softballs. The softballs will be used strictly as balls to be hit so our team is able to get more reps in.
