My students need a classroom rug where I will do most of my teaching and the reading pillows will be an alternative to sitting at a desk.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Muniak's classroom raised $656
This project is fully funded
My Students
My students have a hard time sitting in those hard classroom chairs and desks all day. I want to give them options for this coming year. How fun would it be to sit on Hokki stools or a stability ball while doing your work? Alternative seating is researched based and I'm ready to give it a try!
My students are inner city youth with lots or energy and many of them have a hard time focusing and SITTING in a chair.
"Alternative seating" is all the rage amounts teachers as it gives kids a chance to choose a place in the classroom where they can be successful without sitting in a traditional setting. I can't wait to see my students working in this new and innovative environment!
My Project
I will have direct instruction lessons on our new classroom rug. When my students work independently or in small groups, I want them to be able to do their work in an environment that is not typical of a traditional classroom. I will have all kinds of alternatives to our hard classroom chairs and desks. My students will have bean bag chairs to sit on and Hokki stools. I also have stability balls and lawn chairs in my room for the kids to use as an alternative to chairs and desks.
Typically, our attendance rate is low.
I want my kids to WANT to come to school because we won't have a traditional classroom. It will be an environment that is FUN and different than any classroom they've ever been in! I can see my students sitting on our new carpet reading with a friend using a reading pillow.
