Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

The National Youth Violence Prevention Resource Center states that almost 30% (over 5.7 million) students in the United States are involved in bullying. This could mean that they are bullying others, they are the victims of bullying, or both. I teach in a K-5 bilingual elementary campus that has been certified "No Place for Hate" by the Anti-Defamation League.

We are working hard to ensure that every child understands what it means to be part of a community that is no place for hate. The truth of the matter is that bullying still exists on our campus, and we would like to take further steps to stop it.

The resources I am requesting include books, posters, and learning games that will provide information for the students about the different types of bullying, why none of them are okay, and what to do if they are being bullied. Boys and girls bully very differently - boys tend to be more aggressive and physical in their bullying, while girls are more passive and tend to use their words instead of their hands. These resources will provide information and strategies to combat both types of bullying. We will be targeting grades 3-5, but the resources are appropriate for all grades and we will use them as needed.

Through your generous donation to this project, you can help us in our goal to reduce the number of students involved in bullying on our campus to zero. If even one student is given the means to end bullying in their life, then we have made a difference. With your help, the number of students affected will be much more than one. Thank you for your consideration!
