We're a highly sought after neighborhood school that serves families from all types of backgrounds. We have students that wake up each day knowing they're loved and will be well cared for, and we have others who aren't so fortunate.
Our kids come in every shade of the human rainbow and embody all that is beautiful about childhood.
We have kids with learning and emotional disabilities, kids living in poverty, kids who are identified as gifted, kids we love. We meet each child where he or she is, and we support them as they grow into the individuals they are meant to be. They are special and unique individuals but not without their challenges.
My Project
Do you remember learning grammar in school? Maybe you do, with a groan. Or maybe your teachers glossed over it, because they didn't clearly understand it themselves. Many of us don't have good memories of grammar lessons. They were confusing, dull, and often seemed pointless.
The truth is, without a good understanding of grammar, it's more difficult to express yourself clearly.
Understanding parts of speech, types of sentences, and when and how to use prepositions, clauses, conjunctions, and various types of punctuation, can all help you improve as a reader and writer.
Learning grammar can be difficult for kids, because there's a lot to remember. By using "mentor sentences" from real stories, kids can see how professional authors use language. By examining specific sentences, and how they are put together, kids gain an understanding of grammar without the old "drill and kill" method, which sucks the joy out of grammar instruction. These texts have been specifically chosen for their rich and varied "mentor sentences," as well as their wonderful stories featuring a wide variety of characters and settings.
