My Students
The students that I have the blessing to work with daily are extensions of their community. They are predominately students of color who come from environments farrowed with barriers to their development. These barriers are included but are not limited to mental health needs such as stress, trauma, anxiety, and social-emotional deficits. 85% of my student population receive free or reduced-cost lunch and more than half are below grade level with regards to academic proficiency. They need support to improve their overall outcomes. Resources however can be difficult to come by and funding even more so. My students require a unique approach and delivery when providing them the support that nurtures their ability for healthy self-expression.
My Project
Not every student is able to bring a mask on a daily basis - as the school year continues having masks for all students has become a vital need that influences so much. We want to protect not only our students, but our school community by way of staff and parents. We want to ensure we have resources on hand to limit exposure and spread of COVID in our school building. Having these masks available will ensure that when a student presents to school with no mask - we can immediately provide them one with no concerns about running out.
