Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

With the recent economic crisis, public education has been one of the areas mostly affected. Funds that were previously used for extracurricular activities like field trips are almost extinct, leaving a great need for students to be exposed to the arts through other methods.

I am a teacher in a school that services students who come from low income working class families that live in or close to one of Los Angeles low income housing complexes.

My students are some of the most creative 1st graders you can ever meet. They are smart enthusiastic learners who enjoy learning and listening to stories read to them

My Project

I have found that getting students interested and involved in whatever subject/concept, you must provide a variety of modalities for them to become fully involved and interested in that subject. They will appreciate and understand things when they can see and experience them for themselves. In the past when I wanted my students to be exposed to the arts, I was able to introduce the media to them when we had a field trip to a museum assigned to our class. With the recent budget cuts, It is difficult for my students and I to get at least one trip a year, much less to a variety of museums to visit in a year. Where does that leave the arts? I want my students to be exposed to and learn art appreciation therefore, if I can't take them to the museum I want to bring the museum to them. With technology I will expose my students to a variety of arts by exploring virtual, museum tours. The laptop that I am requesting will expose my students to an endless amount of virtual museum tours and arts.

Thank you for taking the time to read this project proposal, if you decide to donate you will help expose students to the arts by providing a laptop and protection plan that will allow them to visit virtual museums and learn about a variety of art modalities.

Thank you!
