it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Athletics is a key part of our of school culture. We are a title one school and for many of our students athletics is a key motivator for academics in the classroom. Throughout the year about 50% of our students participate in an after school sport.
Sport programs at our school provide a safe place for our students to go after school, while teaching them neccesary life skills such as responsibility, teamwork and goal setting.
Our student athletes work hard, they balance academic expectations and school work, as well as sport practices and competiton. Sports serve as a point of pride for our students, there success on the field or court translates into success in the classroom and in life.
My Project
Flag Football is a sport that my students wait for every year. As fans of the game, and aspiring players themselves our student athletes have big dreams. However most of the athletes have never played the game before and our flag football team serves as their introduction to the sport. On our flag football team athletes learn basic football skills such as passing, catching, route running, and basic footwork. More footballs would allow for students to get increased repetition with catching and throwing. Agility ladders would allow students to improve footwork, agility, and speed needed for accurate play of the game on both offense and defense. Agility cones would allow coaches to set up drills that focus on route running and specific plays as students work together to learn their offense and defense.
This project would make a difference by giving coaches the equipment they need to ensure all students athletes learn and master the neccessary skills to play the game.
My student athletes work extremely hard both in the classroom and on the field. To be able to surprise them with new training equipment and footballs would continue to ignite their drive for both school and the game of football.
