My students love to poke fun at each other but have not had many adults to model the socially acceptable way to interact with their peers.
My students attend a high poverty, low performing school in urban IL.
They live in gang-infested neighborhoods but manage to make it to school every day. They are loving students but do not have the social capabilities to treat their peers with the respect that they deserve. With proper training and modeling, I believe my students will be productive citizens of society.
My Project
I am requesting a class trip to see the movie BULLY. I need my students to see what happens in the minds of students who are the victims of these attacks and what they do, to themselves and others, when they reach the breaking point. It is one thing to tell my students not to be bullies and it's another for them to see it for a student's point of view.
My project is important because I have kids writing notes saying that they want to hurt other students because of how they're being treated.
I need my students who are the bullies to see how their actions are affecting other students' learning and their lives.
