This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students come from economically disadvantaged homes and neighborhoods. Because their parents are always worried about the cost of rent, food, and gas, school supplies are often the last thing to be replaced when lost or ran out.
Every student should have a pencil.
I buy as many as I can with the limited school funds I am given, but around January, I am dangerously low. By the beginning of March, I have to buy pencils out of my own pocket so that no student is denied a writing tool.
If these pencils are donated, I will have enough to give every student a replacement. There will be no more scrambling for something to write with and no student will feel embarrassed to ask. We are also requesting a pencil sharpener so that students can sharpen their pencils, mechanical pencils for students who cannot use or grip wooden pencils, and erasers so that students can easily edit their work.
