This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school with about 500 students. The majority of our student population is Latino and African-American, many of whom reside in temporary housing facilities in the South Bronx. Our student population is comprised of over 100 students who have special needs and 98% of our students are eligible for free lunch. Despite these odds and challenging circumstances, our students come to school each day and are encouraged to see our school's vision, which is for all of our students to "Be our best, love learning and inspire the world!" With a continued perspective on strong instructional practices and improving students' outcomes, we are focusing on supporting our students' academic, social, and emotional growth and development. This focus is important in that we believe students learn best through regular interactions with adults who know them well in a supportive and safe environment.
My Project
I am asking for three laptops to accommodate students who have gone without any technology since March of 2020. We are now going into the eighth month of this pandemic and our students are suffering tremendously through no fault of their own.
Parents are having to choose between working and putting food on the table and giving their children the necessities they need to learn.
No parent should have to make this decision, but many are having to do so. The needs are great in our school community. This project will help to eliminate an educational deficit for three families in our school.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
