My students need materials to continue field investigations and experiences in environmental science such as a weather station, tools, and air pollution assay kit, and a student globe.

My Students

My students are members of the Advanced Placement Environmental science course at our school. Our school is in a mid to low-income district. Many of our students are on the free and reduced lunch program.

While they are all high achievers, the students lack some of the practical field experience, which will really make the content come alive for them.

Our class motto is "No child left inside." The materials will help my students gain valuable, real world experience.

My Project

My students will use these materials to experience real world examples of topics we discuss in class. Field investigations and laboratory studies are an integral part of the AP Environmental Science experience. The weather station, in particular, will enable us to add real time and local data to experiments involving climate change, air quality and run-off. In addition, the Air Pollution assay kit will allow us to monitor air quality and pollution in our community. The other investigations will help us to simulate in the lab when we can't actually get out into the field.

Students will gain valuable experiences that will not only help them to pass the AP exam, but will also give them in depth understanding of their local environment.

Experiences such as these, help the students to gain ownership of the lessons and master the subject area. This is the most important aspect of education, giving the students a need to learn the subjects we teach.
