Help me give my students an authentic and exciting learning experience, as they explore reading themes, skills and strategies, and life lessons taught through the characters of Wonder.
My students are enthusiastic about all of the learning materials that are made available to them by the school district! We are fortunate to be provided materials that allow all learners present in our classroom environment to have materials at their level.
At our school, we strive to overcome the impact the socioeconomic status has on the area in which we learn.
My goal is give these students the best learning experience they can be provided. I feel that a major part of being a great teacher is giving students the access and support that they need to reach their learning goals!
My Project
Wonder, by R.J. Palacio, is the best way to end a year for 5th grade learners! The 5th Grade Team is combining forces to create a learning experience that will engage students in the process of studying important themes as they begin to think about transitioning to middle school.
Authentic literature is one of the best methods for engaging young minds in stretching their reading skills by incorporating the world around them.
Allowing students to explore themes that apply directly to their understanding of what it means to be kind allows students to have a reading experience unlike any other.
As a team, we are working to develop a unit of reading that incorporates 5th grade reading standards, social/emotional skills, and an opportunity to connect authentic text to themselves, other literature, and the world outside of their classroom. We will use these opportunities to help students prepare for the transition from elementary school to middle school, easing their anxiety and fears related to a monumental transition for young learners.
