This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Nonfiction has always been a tough sell for my students, as important as it is for their final exams and for their success in secondary school. When I find interesting nonfiction texts that directly engage my students' interests, I get so excited! Money is a very interesting topic to my students, and this text tackles minimum wage jobs...the jobs my students are most likely to occupy during their teenage years.
The book "Nickle and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America asks students "How can anybody survive on $7 an hour?"
While we'll be reading our text students will asked to annotate using post it notes they can later apply to their notebooks. In addition we'd like to request art supplies like tissue paper and foam letters to complete presentation projects after completing the unit.
