Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This school year we received a new reading curriculum so my students are in need of various materials to enhance their learning. My students come to school everyday ready to learn, but with the new materials, they cannot experience their full potential in the classroom.
Despite these circumstances, our students are eager to learn and do their best.
I teach at a Title I school where most of our students receive free lunch. They want to be in school because they want to learn, feel safe, and be appreciated. My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically.
However, many students in my classroom say they have difficulty completing practice assignments because of lack of supplies and resources. Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, but without appropriate supplies that we need to incorporate in the variety of learning strategies, group work, and other work stations will make it more difficult to accomplish.
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will help them read better by listening to their own voice and controlling the rate of speech. The timers will definitely come in handy while they are practicing their reading fluency. The fluency games will help each students practice independently in their centers. The organizational baskets, markers, whiteboards, and fluency charts will be placed on the shelves in the back of our centers for easy access while working in their centers. The timers will be used so that my students know how much work time they have left, and to time themselves while reading.
The donations to this project will help to improve my students reading fluency as well as helping them become more independent readers.
