My students need a Little Free Library Kit and the The Free Library Book so that they can build and maintain a self-serve and sharing library at the playground which adjoins our school.
My students belong to a college-preparatory exam school in an urban district. They are high achievers. Many will be the first in their family to go on to college after they graduate from high school.
The students whom I teach are bright, dedicated, and curious.
They work hard to understand the material even though the resources which are available to them may be outdated. These students deserve the best and I can only give that to them with your help!
My Project
Creating this Little Free Library will allow students to contribute to the community to which our school belongs in a meaningful way. The project kit comes with everything which they will need to put the library together. Students will build it with adult help and supervision. They will also paint it so that it is a beautiful addition to they playground - making it stand out and attractive to the children who play there. The book contains great ideas to implement along with the library.
We plan to maintain this library for years to come to foster a love of reading in the community.
In addition to creating and maintaining this library, students will also have to navigate city government agencies about the placement and upkeep of the library. This will be an important lesson in civics and government, too!
