Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Here at my school, we offer a lot of opportunities for our students to grow. From putting on plays to having art galleries to running races on the weekends, we try to do it all for our students.
The last three or so years, there has not been a physical education teacher at my school.
So I am trying to play catch up and give my students the best physical education learning atmosphere possible. I am trying to get the program back up and running and to do so, I need some other equipment that I was not able to order. I started with no equipment. The first three months of school I had nothing until I was able to order some through the school. Now, my students are succeeding and really finding their home in physical education. If we don't help the students of the future, who will?
My Project
As being a new teacher in a school that has not had a physical education teacher in a few years, one thing I wanted to start was an after-school basketball team/club for my students.
Growing up playing sports has shaped my life into what it is today.
if I did not have sports as an outlet I am not sure what I would have done. Every child deserves to have an outlet whether that be reading, art, music, or sports. For my school Basketball is a HUGE outlet. Whether it be during recess or any free time the students have they bring their basketballs and play, girls and boys together.
It not only increases their motor skills and movement patterns but also how to work as a team and together with other students.
The ball cage and the 16 ball rack will store the basketballs we have already as well as the ones I hope to get. Size 6 and size 4 basketballs because for the younger students to practice a size 4. My older students will use the size 6 balls. And for when we travel or for more storage I would use the mesh duffle bag.
