My Students
Our inner-city school serves a culturally and linguistically diverse population of second language learners. Many of our students are immigrants or children of immigrants, and most come from low-income families.
My fourth and fifth graders are never short on curiosity, just the materials they need to begin exploring!
Your generosity can help fire up our engines and steady our course as we launch a new hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) unit to pair with a study of the Red Planet.
My Project
When I showed my class footage captured by the Mars rovers, they were hooked on space exploration, but videos alone cannot replace experiencing the laws of physics in action. It's the dynamic, interactive quality of hands-on science that sparks the why, how and what if questions that drive innovation and engender the sort of creative approaches to problem-solving today’s kids need to thrive in a tech-mediated world.
A class collection of Lego Education WeDo Core and Mindstorm Robot sets will make this sort of investigation possible, providing my students with opportunities to build machines that simulate the ways the NASA rovers navigate the Marian landscape.
With your help here on earth, my students can explore principals that govern the heavens.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
