Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are a snapshot of the diversity we have here in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the United States. We speak many languages, some are indigenous to Minnesota, many have ancestors or generations of family who have recently come to this place.

Something we all have in common and that can help unite us across differences is making music together.

If you haven't experienced it before, making sound together as a group whether it be through singing, drumming, or other ways of music making can be transformative-bonding us together as a classroom community even at the youngest age!

The percussion instruments that are part of this project will help us more authentically make music from the Indigenous traditions of Minnesota and the Afro-Latinx rhythms of the Caribbean and South America. Some will also be wonderful sound effects to add to our musical soundscapes.
