My Students

I usually luck out to have creative students that want to be able to let their imaginations flow. They want to be able to share the creativity that goes on in their mind. Every year, my comic book class is the hardest to get into. Not because of me, but because it is something that my students love to do and something that gives them the freedom to explore their mind.

Due to budget cuts in schools, the arts departments are constantly cut and I don't want my students to miss out on such an important part of their own development, self expression.

My Project

Every year I teach my students how to write, plan, draft, illustrate and publish their very own comic book based upon stories and characters that they create. This year I want to take it a step further. If you go into any toy store, any chain drug store, any game store you will find Funko Pops based on cartoon characters, tv shows, movies even famous people. I want my students to be able to create their own 3D model toy based on their comic book character.

Allowing a student to create, and develop using their very own imagination is one of the greatest gifts that a teacher can bestow upon them.

I intend to still teach my students how to create these comics teaching them how to write and illustrate. At the same time I'm going to show them how to use apoxie to then mold onto these customizable Funko Pops so that they can then create their very own toy based upon their character.

After they create their comic book characters and then finish their comic books they are going to begin working on making their flat two-dimensional drawings come to life by using the apoxie to mold onto the base. Lastly, they'll paint them if there is time.

Imagine the feeling that these students will get having a toy that they can play with that THEY created. Something that came from their imagination. Something that is a one of a kind toy. Now that is something that will allow a student to really showcase their talent and imagination. This combination of writing, illustrating and molding and letting students fully develop as individuals is why the arts are so important in schools.
