"Did you know that...?" "Can you believe that...?" "I wonder..."
These are the questions and comments I love to hear from my students as they learn new facts in science. My students need more opportunity to investigate and question the real world.
My first graders attend a public school in a large urban community.
Our school population is the most diversified in the city. In my class, I have students from many different countries. Many are refugee families just starting in the US with little or no English. My classroom includes ELL students and Special Education students. Most qualify for free or reduced lunch. My students are enthusiastic 6-7 year olds who love to learn!
My Project
I am requesting science research materials, including book sets and posters. Since the common core state standards have been adopted, my students need easy access to science resources that can be integrated into all subject areas. Students LOVE reading and writing about the real world, especially plants and animals. When children have the curiosity to ask questions about what they see and hear, I like to have accessible resources available for them in the classroom. Students will learn to read, question, research and write about plants and animals. Students will also be able to record these facts/answers and share them with others through presentations.
Over the years, well-read books need to be repaired, but often they need to be replaced.
New books are gifts to children. New facts and information from the books can be the gift of a child's success in education. Donating to my project will touch the lives of many. Please donate to the future of my eager learners!
