Carl Sagan wrote, " Science is a way of thinking much more than it is a body of knowledge". A goal of science education is to engage students in creative work and exploration.
Students learn by doing and that is what we do in my science class.
We have a diverse student population. Our school is a magnet school for the deaf and hard of hearing with twenty percent on free or reduced price lunches. I believe that all students deserve the chance to have the same experiences in science no matter their disabilities or background. As our district is no longer allowed to collect student fees, our minimal budgets are used for student supplies instead of hands-on science equipment.
My Project
The large lava lamp will allow my students to view the process of convection and then transfer that concept to how hot spots and lava work within the earth's crust. The extra bulbs are needed to make this last for years to come.
My students need a big lava lamp to show how the process of convection inside the earth's inner layers and supplies to document their discoveries.
They also need maps to learn about the surface of the earth and how land forms change.
New, Next Generation Science curriculum and science text books are used each day in class. We will do hands on work each day to implement the new curriculum and develop our science minds.
