Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a neighborhood school with a large special education population, as well as a high ability gifted magnet. My classroom is one of the neighborhood third grade classrooms with students of varying backgrounds. Our school strives for excellence. We believe in educating the entire child and developing well rounded involved citizens. Students come with many different stories to tell as well as being eager to learn. My class of 27 third graders come to school with different learning abilities. We work as a community within our room and within our school.
My Project
According to the Next Generation Science standards third graders should be able to represent data in table and graphical displays to describe typical weather conditions expected during a particular season. These materials will allow the children the opportunity to study weather according to the NGSS. They will be able to conduct experiments with the weather kit. They will have books for resources to do other experiments as well as read about extreme weather. Children will be able to report the weather and have a deeper understanding of what weather really is using these the weather tracker and weather placemats. The more opportunities the students have to practice and put into action a lesson, the more likely they are to retain information as well as be able to retell what they have learned.
