Somers is a struggling junior high which just came off the SURR list. Our students have so little and I want to give them so much more. To that end I have willingly given my time to starting a school newspaper for the students at Somers. Nearly all of the students here come from homes below the poverty line and I want them to have the chance to experience something that can influence them for life. We are currently using my own out-dated digital camera and a low performing printer to produce our newspaper...the Somers Scoop. I would love to be able to get the students one or two decent digital cameras which will help add to the newspaper. The students will be able to really get involved with all aspects of production for the paper. These students are so disadvantaged that many have no computers at home. I want them to be exposed to as much as possible so that they don't fall behind in their future educational endeavors.
