I am a Diverse Learner teacher in the inner city and we are surrounded by danger daily. Despite the odds that surround us, my students love learning and coming to school. My students range in grades (2nd, 3rd and 4th grade) and I teach a cross category self-contained classroom (special education). That just means my students are EXTRA AWESOME and just learn a tad differently from their non-disabled peers. I am also fortunate enough that I get to teach our English Language Learners as well. Every year, my school district endures budget cuts and therefore I am forced to work with limited resources. I refuse to allow the budget cuts to impact students. We must continue to learn and achieve greatness.
Due to the budget cuts and a growing Diverse Learner class size I need your help!
I need to be able to provide my students with the necessary tools to help them close the achievement gaps.
Many students see my school as a safe and nurturing place due the violence that surrounds us. They enjoy learning and love learning about current events.
Despite the challenges Diverse Learners and English Language Learners face, they deserve an opportunity to engage in current events on their grade level. They want to learn about the various topics that affect 3rd graders. By funding this project, you are providing students the opportunity to engage with non-fiction/informational text. This will not only make a difference within the classroom but it will also impact them as global citizens.
I have seen that when students are provided the opportunity to learn about issues that involve them, it makes them not only a better student but a better person as well!
