I am fortunate to be the classroom teacher of a group of eager and energetic sixth graders. They are interested in everything around them. They are curious about not only their neighborhood and city but the world around them. As part of our writing for this school year we would like to create a Video News Show that would allow the students to become roving reporters. They would interview people in the school and in the surrounding community. This activity would not only allow them to sharpen their reading and writing skills but it would also encourage and improve their observation skills as well as their public speaking abilities. To that end I am requesting a video camera and a tripod for our classroom use.The school population is 99.5% African American and many of the children qualify for free or reduced lunch. This camera will allow my 24 students to experience the pride that comes from participating in a project based learning activity.
