Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a school on the southwest side of Chicago. Our school has a large population of Latino students whose first language is Spanish. In the years I have worked as a teacher, the students I have had come in every day with a lot of energy, with many questions, and ready to learn.

Fourth grade is a very exciting year for students.

Throughout the fourth grade, students learn to become independent learners. Furthermore, throughout the fourth grade, students become exposed to many different text genres and develop many reading and writing skills.

One of the very exciting things about being in fourth grade is that students become independent readers. By the end of fourth grade, students leave having been exposed to many different genres of books. They also leave the fourth grade loving books and having learned new reading and writing strategies.

My Project

My students love to learn about the world around them! Who doesn't? They are curious kids, after all. I would like to encourage them to continue to read and learn as much as they can about current events. Unfortunately, its is sometimes difficult to find interesting magazines they can read independently and learn about these things. This is why I (and they) love Scholastic Magazines so much! Please help me provide them with the knowledge to that will pave the way for a brighter future. Scholastic Magazines are a low stakes, low stress, high interest way to get them to read and learn.

I have used Scholastic Magazines in the past, and they are a great resource for every reader.

Another resource I am asking for is DynaMath, connecting math to the world around us is essential. Kids will often ask, "But why do I need to learn this?" DynaMath magazine is the answer to that question. DynaMath provides excellent stories every month which connect reading, math and science to real world learning. It is a great supplemental activity to enrich my students and help them to understand that math is all around us and relevant to everything we do every day. There are also videos, supplemental activities, and a daily math calendar to challenge my students and help them to succeed. DynaMath is truly a Dynamite resource for all. My students really need Dynamath to enrich their learning and understand the connection between math and the world around us.
