My Project
My students live in Washington Township but have come from all corners over the world-Thailand, Burma, Haiti, El Salvador, Mexico, Venezuela, Tanzania, to name a few! Most have been in the country less than one year and are doing their best to adjust to a new culture, a new school and a new life. Learning English quickly and effectively is one of the key components to help support them in their new endeavor. To that point, research consistently reinforces the fact that "structured read alouds" are one of the most effective ways to acquire literacy and language.
My goal is to provide all of my students access to learning stations where they have audio support to appropriately leveled texts.
As noted by the Commission on Reading, “the single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children.” (Anderson et al., 1985, p. 23).
