Newbery Medal Winner Books Needed

My students need to read The Door in the Wall by Marguerite De Angeli. While studying medieval Europe, students want to read historical fiction about kids like them during that time period.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is fantastically unique. We exemplify the benefits of living in the center of a big and diverse urban center. Our school population is mainly Latino, African-American, and Korean. In addition, there are growing numbers of Russian, Mongolian, Philipinno, and Thai. The teachers are as diverse as the students.

We cater to a wide range of students and their specific educational needs.

We provide a Gifted Magnet, School for Advanced Studies, Dual Language Korean and Spanish, Special Education, and community school.

My Project

The Door in the Wall by Marguerite De Angeli is a Newbery Medal winning historical fiction novel. In the 7th grade, students study medieval Europe. This novel will be a wonderful companion reading as we study Feudalism.

Students rarely have the opportunity to read an entire novel.

Most of the time students are reading excerpts or articles. Learning how to read an entire novel is an important experience for all students. At the beginning of class we read and listen to a chapter of the story. Students enjoy sharing their ideas about the actions of the characters. Later, they write about the reading in their reading logs. Everyone enjoys reading together.
