Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My New York City English Language Learning students are nearly 400 years behind today's business world! The pencil was invented in 1564. We NEED your support to escape the binds of 16th century technology and move past pencils and paper, and onto more sustainable, appealing methods of learning.

We go to school literally MINUTES FROM SOME OF THE MOST IMPRESSIVE BUILDING STRUCTURES ON EARTH!

It does not stand to reason that Math students go without consistent access to the literal building blocks that employ the captivating laws of physics and mathematics, minutes from our school! We attend an urban middle school full of dedicated, but economically disadvantaged students. Though we study scaled drawings and proportional relationships, we need a direct connection to the world around us in order to feel more connected to MATHEMATICS IN REAL LIFE.

My Project

Introducing my students to the LEGO Architecture Series will allow them to visualize and mathematically plan with tangible models. My students will excel at task completion, organization, and the collaborative learning experience that awaits them as they BUILD RELEVANT MODELS IN MATH CLASS. The LEGO Architecture Series will provide my students with continuous access to relevant models of scale and proportional relationships, as well as provide them with valuable life skills to succeed beyond middle school! Contemporary students need to feel a powerful connection to concepts of planning and organization, and a meaningful exploration of thinking using proportional reasoning. What better way to do so than with current, fun models of technology?

As a teacher with a background in physical construction and design, I value facilitating a full curriculum that uses mathematical modeling in a meaningful manner to develop stronger reasoning skills among struggling students.

This project will help my students engage in sustained planning and collaboration. With these tools, students will use structural models to develop their mathematical literacy, as well as develop their innovative and creative minds, but ONLY WITH YOUR HELP!
