New Year's CONFLICT Resolution

Help me give my students school counseling items to further support student conflict resolution skill building through art therapy.

My Students

Our Title I funded school is located in Bergen County, New Jersey and serves a culturally diverse group of students from ages pre-k through fifth grade. Our school serves just under 500 students with more than a third of students being from low-income households.

Many of my students come from various home life dynamics such as non-nuclear families.

Our students work hard, and they love to explore, discover and learn. It is always a pleasure to work with such wonderful students and their families.

My Project

Part of my role as a school counselor is to ensure our school provides a positive school climate and culture where our students can feel safe, comfortable, and happy coming to school each day. Each child should know they are in a safe and healthy learning space so that they can continue to grow socially, emotionally, and academically during their time here.

Part of maintaining a positive school climate involves ensuring our students have conflict resolution skills and tools needed to assist in working through their social conflicts.

When students are able to get along with their peers, it places them in a positive state of mind where they feel safe, which then allows our students to learn and grow to become the best versions of themselves and achieve their full academic potential.

Therefore, this project requests items to further support the creative teaching and skill building of conflict resolution to students in the school counseling classroom through art therapy. These particular items include art therapy books/resources like The Big Book of EVEN MORE Therapeutic Activity Ideas for Children and Teens, Creative Ways To Help Children Manage Big Feelings and CBT Doodling for Kids. The Melt Anxiety and Relax Card Deck is also requested. We hope you will support this new project for the new year!
