This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My amazing high school students are all recent immigrants who are learning English as their second, third or even fourth language. My students are from more than 20 countries and speak more than 6 different languages.
Due to Boston's skyrocketing costs of living, many of my students are living in shelters, group homes or other transitional housing, and some students struggle to focus with so much uncertainty and transition in their home lives.
According to NBC, Boston is the third most expensive place to live in the United States. With no end in sight to the housing crisis, it is vital that I make my classroom and curriculum welcoming and trauma responsive for all my students.
My Project
Our school is housed in a very old building with poor air filtration and often overheated rooms. Students (and staff) are already more likely to become sick during the winter months, and it is a priority for everyone in my class to be healthy and safe so they can learn.
These supplies of Clorox wipes, a broom and class sized hand sanitizers will allow us to maintain a clean and healthy classroom space.
. Febreeze spray will create an inviting and calming classroom during the stressful standardized testing months.
