Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a dual immersion 2nd-grade class. Students in my class are either native Spanish speakers learning English or native English speakers learning Spanish. Most of my students are between the ages of 7 and 8.
The school is a low-income school lacking a lot of useful resources.
Second graders are very interested and eager to learn. They come to school every day with a lot of energy and potential. We will be working on strategies that will help us become better readers, writers, and mathematicians.
My Project
As a new teacher, I have extremely limited funds to supply my students with everything they need to be successful in the first few months of school. My classroom needs various teaching tools, such as whiteboard markers and erasers, anchor charts, and a timer to keep us all on track.
My students need art materials to make the first few weeks of school fun and to help me get to know more about them as creative individuals so I can tailor my teaching to their interests and needs.
We also need various organizational items in order to make our materials more accessible and in order for our classroom to run smoothly. Book bins and paper trays will ensure that my students can keep their personal libraries and materials organized. These items will help us start this new school year. We could really use your support!
