My students need various painting supplies to be able to create a plethora of projects that aid in their learning of various artists, cultures, and histories. These supplies will help them become more well rounded learners.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a teacher who has a large majority of her students coming from high poverty areas, many of which are facing several challenges in their lives. Despite their struggles, these kids come in each and every day hoping to expand their horizons. The kids I teach are eager to learn, excited by new knowledge, and are happy to be at school. I want to show these students that no matter their beginnings, or expectations placed on them by others, they can be whatever they want to be.
My Project
The materials I requested are painting supplies, particularly watercolors and watercolor paper and brushes. I would like to use these supplies to aid in my students creativity as well as knowledge of various artists, histories, and cultures. I find watercolor is a wonderful type of medium to use with children. It is easy to use, easy to clean up (which is important for an Elementary Arts Teacher), can be used with other mediums (such as oil pastels), and always gives an impressive finish. Any time I have used watercolors with students, they have literally gasped at their results.
With these supplies I will be able to give my students a new learning experience, one that will hopefully continue their thirst for the arts as wells as knowledge.
