My Students

I strive to have an engaging classroom that keeps my students involved and excited to learn. I am at a great school with a variety of demographics of families, although the majority is in low-income families. We are a Title I school and although we have resources, it just never seems to be enough. When I send home homework, maybe two or three students return their work. They explain they don't have pencils, glue, or scissors to be able to complete the assignment. They have to take care of their siblings, stay with a caretaker until late hours in the evening, or just are not encouraged to work on their academics. When coming to school, many look forward to the consistency, love, and care they get while learning each day. The students love to engage with each other, even if it's while learning. They thrive but also need breaks throughout the day to keep their minds able to stay focused. As the year continues, I learn each of them, their ways of learning, and what benefits them to help excel in their learning.

My Project

The items in this project will be used for my students in a variety of ways. Currently, our school provides headphones to our students, although they are painful, tight, and small for their heads. The students often take them off during assignments, which only prevents them from getting their full potential in learning. These headphones will be more comfortable and age-appropriate so the students will WANT to wear them during all assignments!

Christmas is coming around the corner and students rarely ever have the opportunity to give their family gifts.

These ornaments will allow them not to just give one but a couple of gifts, memorable gifts, to their family members and give them a sense of happiness knowing on Christmas morning their families have something to open from them.

Right after the holidays, Martin Luther King approaches and we always take the time to appreciate this holiday. The students need to know how he took a stand and believed in himself. This gives each of them the ability to know, they can too. These books will be their constant reminders to always push for your dreams and believe in what is right, even when others don't.

These items will go so far with my students and create memorable moments in second grade that they will cherish forever.
