My students are vibrant, enthusiastic, and passionate about learning. We come from a small, rural farming town in Western New York of less than 8,000 people. The students here are cared for the like family by a faculty of innovative and caring teachers. Our goal is to put the kids first in every decision we make.
My students love to read, explore, design, invent, and engage with the world around them.
I have seen students go above and beyond the daily tasks to make life a little easier for others or to reach out in the world and show what character our school is made of. We take great pride in our name, and the legacy we leave behind us is valuable. Nurture, challenge, engage - the motto we stand behind.
My Project
The items in this project serve 2 goals. The first goal is seeking culturally responsive texts to add to our library. My goal this year is to participate in the "classroom book a day" trend, where every day the students and I will read a picture book with important themes, context, art, and author intentions. We will use these texts to guide our instruction for the day and grow as readers together. I specifically added texts that are diverse in characters and authors to expand student views of the world.
The second goal is to add items to my classroom that would help to support CDC guidelines of social distancing and individual supply access.
We currently share almost everything within my room, so the need to separate things such as clipboards, whiteboards, math manipulatives, science tools, and books will be at the forefront of my agenda in planning a safe re-entry to my classroom.
