Year after year, I'm blessed and lucky enough to teach and spend my day with the sweetest kiddos alive! I teach in a high-poverty, low socioeconomic community in southern Mississippi. Our teachers are the best and the kiddos are just so awesome.
Each day, my students step off the bus ready and so excited to learn.
In my classroom, I try to make learning as fun as possible, but we do not always have the supplies and materials that we need to succeed.
My Project
This project is all about bringing new and diverse texts into our classroom for the upcoming year!
This past school year was the most difficult of my entire teaching career.
One saving grace for our class was books. We read aloud so many books throughout the year. No matter what was going on in the outside world, a read aloud story really helped to make our class feel whole and normal. We read every single day, no matter if we were in person or on Zoom. My kiddos grew to love books as much as I do , and I want to instill this love in my incoming firsties.
For this project , we are asking for a variety of texts that include silly books, social-emotional books, and a couple of soon-to-be classics. I just know my students will love reading Our Class Is a Family, Stumpkin, and The Worm Family Has Its Picture Taken.
