This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a diverse first grade class in a Title 1 school in the north Bronx borough of NYC. Most of my children are struggling with distance learning due to a lack of consistent routine, trauma in their personal lives, and living circumstances. Despite these obstacles, they are resilient little humans who are doing the best they know how amidst the chaos occurring in the world.

My Project

I am requesting basic school supplies for my students for when they return in September. In an attempt to reduce the amount of interactions and spread of germs, I want to give my students their own personal box of school supplies that they will be responsible for. Inside their pencil box, they will each have pencils, crayons, dry erase markers, and erasers ... as well as sanitation supplies like a personal size hand sanitizer and tissues. I strongly believe that this will help our students stay healthy and socially distance within the confines of our classroom. This will also help my students learn how to be responsible and take care of their own materials.

While this school year has been unprecedented and is continually presenting new challenges, my resilient little learners are adapting to what is becoming a “new normal.” These supplies will help them stay healthy and reduce their financial burden.
