Our school serves students grades 7 through 12 and is located one block from city hall. Civic students from many areas of the city are identified when they experience difficulty, allowing the focus to be on intervention rather than remediation.
For the most at-risk students, those with habitual truancy, significant behavior issues, and histories of suspension and expulsion, the goal is to change behavior so that these students will stay in school and earn enough credits to graduate. In 2014, we established the first library and are including popular urban lit, graphic novels, and books about the justice system.
Students will explore new ways to create using the 3Doodle pens. As leaders, they will develop guidelines and directions for using 3Doodle pens.
They will also research a variety of ideas and applications (including Pinterest!) then plan their projects writing out step by step directions.
After they finish their projects they will review and revise the project steps so other students can use these directions, too.
The teen leaders will also plan and organize for the use of this new tool. They will make sure that other students use the pens carefully. They will make sure the pens are stored safely and securely, too.
In Their Own Words
I really like the idea of 3Doodle pens for our school. I looked on Pinterest and saw some great projects. We have a garden and almost all the students enjoy working in the garden. I hope we can use the 3Doodle pens to draw some of the plants in our garden and make a display to show both science AND art!
I will share ideas with other students and help write up guidelines and directions. Also, I will help make sure that the pens are used responsibly and are put away safely.
I suggest that we should number the pens and have a sign out sheet with student names and pen numbers.
At our school many people have issues. But most students like science and art classes (especially the garden). This project gives us a chance to develop new skills in technology-we can "draw in the air"!!!
I think students will be excited to try something new with 3Doodle pens and will learn lots of new things, too.
