New Year 2016 Supplies

My students need dry erase markers to work in small groups and paper to complete projects for the rest of the school year. They also need pencils and colored pencils.

My Students

January brings the new year and we would like to refresh and renew our supplies. Students are in need of white paper and colored parer for school work and projects. They also need pencils and colored pencils to write and color with. Students are also in need of dry erase markers.

This is a second grade class in a large urban city.

Most of my students come from impoverished homes. They do not always have the necessary supplies that they need for school such as pencils and colored pencils. The school budget has been cut so much, that the supplies we need are not provided by the school. I have spent over $300 on supplies as a teacher to teach my students. Most of the curriculum items are copied and there is a shortage of white paper in which to copy the assignments. The pressure to be successful is so great and students should be given the same opportunity for educational success as their grade counterparts in suburban districts. Without the proper supplies I can not effectively teach my students. It is stressful for my students, if they do not have supplies and must borrow from someone once they get to class. I would like to alleviate some of the stress by providing pencils for each student daily.

My Project

Students will use the paper and colored paper during all subjects in school. Many of the worksheets are downloaded and copied for the students in school. Packets are created for homework, to reinforce what is taught in school. Colored paper is used for graphic organizers, calendars, and projects. The various colors are more appealing to students and stand out. Without paper, students will not have the packets to reinforce what they have learned. Students will use the pencils for writing daily and colored pencils to draw and color. Pencils are used all day in second grade. Students often misplace their pencils, so I find it easier to have pencils available to them. During small group instruction, students use dry erase markers on small boards. The dry erase markers are fun for students to use and adds a different medium during instruction. Students need new markers and erasers to use during the small groups for literacy and math class.

The New Year supplies will make a positive impact on my class.

My students will have the paper and pencils that they need for all subjects. We can begin the new year with the supplies needed, instead of worrying about not having them. Students will have colored pencils to color for projects for all subjects. Students will be excited to complete assignments with new supplies, starting in January. Students will also be excited to use new dry erase markers during small group instruction.
