Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Founded in 2003, The Bronx Academy of Letters was founded on the concept that students who can express themselves clearly in writing will achieve more success on any path they choose. The Bronx Academy of Letters has an intense focus on developing strong communication skills across disciplines. In addition to its rigorous, college-preparatory academic program, The Bronx Academy of Letters is committed to promoting flexible, self-motivated learning outside of the classroom. Teachers facilitate a wide variety of extracurricular programs including student council, drama, art, dance, cooking, book club, and athletics.
My Project
We started a girls varsity volleyball program two years ago here at the Bronx Academy of Letters. None of our girls have ever played volleyball before, and building the program has been a challenge. We had to purchase a new volleyball net system and fight for gym space as we build the program. As a result, there was no extra money in the budget for new uniforms.
Our team has been playing in old basketball uniforms for the past two seasons.
We want to reward our girls for their hard work and dedication to this team by getting them the new uniforms that they deserve to wear proudly. Any donation to help our kids is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
