Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Sign language is identified as a system of communication using visual gestures and signs, as used by deaf people. Sign language is also used with students who are nonverbal. I have one student who is profoundly hearing impaired and other students who are verbal.

Next school year, I want to build an inclusive classroom that incorporates sign language.

The items I am requesting are words for sign language colors, numbers, letter shapes, and books about sign language geared toward young children. I want my room to have more vibrant, inviting, and festive colors for my hearing-impaired students as well. I also want other students to see what it’s like to sign to a student who is hearing impaired and understand how she communicates. Please help me bring my classroom to life for the upcoming school year.
