New Theatre Technicians: At Home Edition

Help me give my students the supplies they need to create, learn, and apply the necessary skills to becoming adept theatre technicians...all while learning from home!

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Hutchings's classroom raised $332

My Students

My students are enrolled in an inner-city, very diverse school. We have over 40 languages represented. Approximately 67% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch waivers. On the other side of the economic status, we have very affluent families' children enrolled. We teach anything from English as a Second Language students to International Baccalaureate, honors and AP students, to severely disabled students.

My students are enrolled in the Stage Crew class which gives them skills such as sewing, woodworking, stage craft, managing, and technological skills associated with technical theatre.

This year, our school in 100% online for at least our first term, and more than likely our second term. I am trying to give the students the best online technical theatre education as I can. What an interesting year!

My Project

My students learn the technical theatre craft while in my stage crew class. In order to create technical theatre, they will need some basic supplies, which I cannot guarantee that they will have at home. Therefore, I am creating a Stage Crew Beginner's Pack. This pack will have the necessary supplies for creating a costume, making a prop, begin lighting techniques, make set design models, and so much more!

My goal is to provide the best technical theatre experience available to my students while they are at home.

This is such a challenge as so much of this discipline relies on the actual theater space. However, with some creative planning, useful supplies, and virtual demonstrations my students will have an experience like none other!
