My classroom needs an Apple laptop for PowerPoints, virtual labs, and research for their science fair projects and our garden club.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Flach's classroom raised $1,779
This project is fully funded
My school is a public high school located in the inner city. I teach science with a focus on biology. The students that take biology are our incoming freshmen. All of our students are low-income/high-needs, with many coming from broken homes.
Currently, my students have no access to technology in the classroom. Most of the outlets in the room do not work and we are not able to use microscopes. This is problematic, especially in a biology classroom where we want to look at cells and microorganisms. Having access to a computer will help to alleviate some of these disadvantages.
My students and I are in need of a laptop computer. As of right now, we do not have access to a computer. We are planning on using the laptop to make PowerPoint presentations for each unit, do research for our garden club, and research/create science fair projects. In addition to these uses, I will incorporate it with our microscopes. I have learned of a way to take photographs through the eyepiece of a microscope and then transfer these pictures to a computer for viewing. Since we are unable to use microscopes in the classroom, I could take pictures of the items and then show them to the class as a whole. This will help us overcome the poor logistics of the classroom. We have also received some new virtual lab cd's that can be utilized with the laptop. Many of these labs are activities that cannot be done in class because of safety reasons or lack of equipment. Being able to incorporate these labs into our curriculum will give our students many more opportunities to participate in labs.
With your help, my students will have to opportunity to access technology in the classroom. This is something we have not been able to do before. We are planning on using the laptop for direct instruction, research, science fair projects, labs, and even our after-school club. All of these will be enriched and strengthened by this laptop.
