Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hungry, not only for the food in the cafeteria, but also for math problems that relate to real life! They want to model math around them by making tables and graphs to represent patterns in our world! They want to see why math is important in our world today.
My students are eager to explore math in the world around them.
They constantly question our lessons with "When am I going to use this." With today's emphasis on technology, there is more math around them and their interests than they could possibly know. They love playing video games, and argue with me of how there is no math in their latest PS4 game. My favorite is when another student shouts out "The whole game is programmed using math!"
My Project
I am requesting 1 iPad, 10 packs of pencils, 1 box of eraser caps, 6 packs of lined paper, 3 packs of markers and 6 pads of chart paper!
We need an iPad in our classroom to track our success. We can use various apps as incentives to do well behaviorally or progress monitor academically. We need chart paper to make posters that model math patterns and expressions in everyday life. We need markers to beautify our posters and express our creative side. My students are learning the skill of teamwork and it is essential that we have the materials to help us work in a team. And most of all we need lined paper, pencils and erasers so we are always prepared to learn!
Many of my students come to school without pencils or paper.
They simply cannot succeed with nothing to write with or nothing to write on. Academically, some students are far behind and need that extra behavioral or academic motivation to push them to succeed which an iPad and its apps can provide. My students will be able to take ownership of their learning and present their learning to our school community on by sharing their projects on chart paper.
