This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This is my first year teaching third grade. I teach in a low-income, urban, Title I school. The population of the school is majority African American students. My students face a lot of challenges on an everyday basis, but it does not stop them from learning and being the best they can be. I want my students to push each other to be successful and be independent thinkers where they can define nonsense. I am excited to teach my students to love learning the way I love teaching.
My Project
As my students adjust to COVID and the new regulations, seeing the familiar math, history, and language wall charts will allow my students to have some comfort in this school year. During math time we will be able to reference the multiplication chart or use the six-sided dice to build an understanding of how numbers are related. The history Hemispheres Blue Ocean Series charts will allow the students to see the key components in a map. They will be able to look at the maps and see the different contents and states that make up the world. Since the students have been out of a classroom for a year and a half, students will also be able to reference the wall charts. If there are any hesitation or questions with the material we can come together on the Home Dynamix area rug and discuss any issues that have arisen. The rug will provide a comfortable place for the students to come together. While the Computer Desk Chair will allow me to have a seat to sit while on the rug or at my desk. Students will also use the rug to find a safe space in the reading corner. The Midea Compact Refrigerator will allow my students to feel secure knowing that they will be able to eat if they need to. It will allow me to keep snacks for students who have forgotten lunch or breakfast. Knowing that I will be able to provide the resources the students need to thrive in the classroom provides me comfort.
