My students are a diverse group that enjoy reading and want to read whenever they can. My class is made up of students at various reading levels ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. As a new teacher my classroom is in dire need of books, as classrooms do not come with materials other than furniture and curriculum textbooks. I have started to collect some books to begin building my classroom library. I want to provide the best for current and future students and continue to foster their love of reading by giving them access to titles that interest them. Many of my students do not have access to a variety of books in their home.
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." Students help build the list of titles! Our classroom library is waiting to be updated and my students are eager to read current titles. I want my classroom library to become a place that my students really enjoy.
As a first year teacher, entering the classroom is entering a empty room, except the generic furniture and supplies.
Every "extra" thing that makes classrooms feel more comfortable, or colorful, or engaging are usually supplied by teacher's paycheck (I have seen over the years from my mom, a 30 year teacher and my sister, who has been teaching for 6 years). Please help my classroom have a library!
