New Supplies for Third Grade

My students need pencils, erasers, a pencil sharpener, tissues, and earbuds in order to have the best third grade year possible.

My Students

My students are excited and ready for third grade. They are eight and nine year olds who come from homes where families want them to be successful. Some come from homes with only one parent, others live with grandparents, some speak different languages, but they all come from families who want them to be successful. However, in the low-income, high poverty Indianapolis neighborhood where I teach, many families do not have the means necessary to purchase the basic school supplies for their children. I plan to purchase crayons, markers, and paper when the Back to School sales start but it is my hope that you can help me by donating the other supplies that we will use all year long. You donation not only helps with supplies, but also lets my students know that you are also encouraging and cheering their successes!

My Project

Pencils, tissues, and earbuds may seem like a strange combination but in my classroom, these are three things we must have in order to do what we do each and every day. We have twelve computers, five tablets, and one iPad and without earbuds we cannot use sound. For these games, sound not only makes it more fun but it is vital in order for the students to play. Pencils, as you know, are vital to student success and something there can never be too many of in a classroom. Pencils and erasers are something we are always using, looking for, and sharpening. We have many factories around our school and allergies are something that many of my students suffer from in the fall and spring. Once, you add in cold and flu bugs running out of tissues is not an option. Last year, I was constantly, picking up extra boxes each time I went to the grocery store. As I said, the combination may seem odd but they are all vital school supplies.

By donating these supplies to my students you are encouraging them and reminding them that what they are doing is important.

You are also giving them something that will be used every, single day. Trust me when I tell you that my students will talk about you constantly as they use the supplies you donate.
